Description

The Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday subpoenaed the White House, the Vice President’s office, the National Security Council and the Department of Justice (DoJ) for documents relating to the administration’s warrantless wiretapping program. Judiciary Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) wants more information about the internal administration conflict over the controversial wiretapping program. The subpoenas seek documents covering the legal analysis of or opinions about the surveillance, orders, decisions or opinions of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC) regarding the program, as well as agreements between the executive branch and telecom or other companies regarding their involvement in the program and any liability they could face. Leahy also asked for any documents pertaining to a decision to end a DoJ Office of Professional Responsibility investigation related to the surveillance.
