Description

By early 1994, then-First Lady Hillary Clinton had immersed herself in the issue of health care. Her January calendar was filled with health-care activities, including a keynote address at the Healthcare Leadership Council and a meeting with the head of Merck. When she left Washington, Clinton made it a point to visit hospitals, including the AIDS unit of University Medical Center in Las Vegas and the Children’s hospital of Philadelphia. During a three-day trip to Russia that month, she visited several hospitals with Naina Yeltsin, wife of former Russia leader Boris Yeltsin. On Jan. 14, records show, she visited Savior Hospital. There, she visited a birthing class with plans to meet “approximately 8 expectant mothers.” Later that day, she dined on, among other things, “Game Chaudfroid” and “‘Swan Lake’ cake.” The next day, she visited “Children’s Hospital #4″ before attending a ballet performance with “school children.” Among the members of the formal departure ceremony from the Kremlin: Tony Lake, who is now an adviser to Clinton’s Democratic presidential opponent Sen. Barack Obama.
