Description

"The Internal Revenue Service began issuing be on the lookout orders for any group applying for 501(c)(4) status with names including “tea party” or “patriot” as early as March 2010, less than a year after tea parties began spontaneously springing up across the nation in communities small and large, according to ABC News, The New York Times and other news sources. According to a time line of IRS activities developed by the Treasury inspector general for tax administration and provided to congressional staff, in March and April 2010, “The Determinations Unit began searching for other requests for tax exemption involving the Tea Party, Patriots, 9/12 and I.R.C. § 501(c)(4) applications involving political sounding names, e.g., ‘We the People’ or ‘Take Back the Country.’ ” Lois Lerner, head of the division on tax-exempt organizations, was briefed on this screening in June 2011, apparently contradicting her assertion this past Friday she learned of the effort from news reports. Obviously, any group bent on “educating on the Constitution and Bill of Rights” constitutes a serious threat to the current administration and progressive crowd in Washington. Thus, the IRS was apparently employed to stifle at all costs the influence of such radical groups."
