Historic Overview

The NDPA was organized in 1968 when the Alabama Democratic Party endorsed George Wallace for President rather than Hubert Humphrey. Democrats in AL who supported Humphrey formed the NDPA as a vehicle to field a slate of electors pledged to him. The party ran several other candidates from 1968 until 1982 but won few races.
