Description

DANVILLE, Va. - Averett University and the Baptist General Association of Virginia have dissolved their 145-year relationship following several disagreements over the issue of homosexuality. The Virginia Baptist Mission Board voted Wednesday to cut its ties with Averett, according to a press release. The action follows the controversy over the formation of Averett’s Gay Straight Student Alliance, a student organization, and its Gay Pride Week activities in February. The GSA-sponsored Gay Pride Week featured movies, speakers, discussions and a drag ball on the campus of the College of William and Mary.
